Get me there!

My name is Kevin Payne. I am 28 and I live in Devon. I used to be a primary school teacher but left in the summer to have my weekends back and to spend time wasting time on things like this. I was born on 7th November 1978 and share my birthday with Rio Ferdinand. I am named after the old Norwich City keeper Kevin Keelan, whom I have met. Nice man.

I have played football since about aged 9 and have had a few moments I have been pleased with. In my youth, I was part of a Norwch Schoolboys team coached by Kit Carson, was invited to play as a guest in a youth tournament in Sweden and represented Norfolk a few times. My claim to fame was once starting a game up front ahead of Adrian Coote. I scored one and was quite happy but when Adrian came on for me at half time he went on and scored 5. That kind of sums up what I am like really. Not awful but not great either.

At university (Rolle College) I received the player of the season award in my first year and was also selected to play for a Devon & Exeter representative team. Whilst at uni I discovered that I share my name with the DC United President and so emailed the club asking for a trial. They thought I was strange and said no. Since then I have become somewhat of a journeyman and not really played at a high standard since.

This is actually a real photo of me (left) in action for Mulbarton Utd vs Beccles, about to hoof it into touch

I play up front for my current team Sandford but I see myself as more of a playmaker rather than striker. My best performances, and the position where I was selected for Devon, is having a free role behind the front two. This is because I do not have to do any defending as I am a lazy git. I actually have to thank my first manager at uni, Matt Barnes, for introducing me to the position and encouraging me to base my work-rate on Matt Le Tissier.

So now I have some free time I thought it would be pretty cool to go over to the US and see what standard Becks will actually come up against. I see this project as similar to the one Ali Dia initiated on Souness at Southampton, and if I can get one touch of that ball before being hauled back into customs then I will be happy.

If you would like to make a donation then please do so via the link below, if for some reason the trial doesn't go ahead or I receive an email saying I didn't even make the trial then all donations will be passed onto charity.

cheers!
